More information

The Cessato Allarme coat rack, created in 1986 by the De Pas, D'Urbino, Lomazzi studio and manufactured by Poltronova in 1991, reveals its source of inspiration in its name ["The alarm is over!"]: the alarm trumpets placed on lampposts during the last war. Made of metal, available in bright colours, it has nothing warlike about it, but rather a cheerful pop touch, underlined by the unusual name which, as Paolo Lomazzi suggests, at the beginning of winter 2020, is a metaphorical call to "go and blow the trumpets again".

About the designer

De Pas, D'Urbino, Lomazzi

The De Pas, D'Urbino, Lomazzi studio was founded in 1966. The architect De Pas died in 1991. In the 1960s and 1970s, the studio focused in particular on the creation of temporary furniture and architecture, using signs, materials and advanced industrial technologies, for example pneumatic structures for the Milan Triennale, and participated, with works and installations, in numerous exhibitions in this field. From the 1970s and 1980s onwards, the studio designed industrial and residential buildings, obtaining numerous awards and recognitions.

Works by all three architects are included in the design collections of several museums, including: MoMA and the Brooklyn Museum in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Berlin and Zurich, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Museo delle Disseny dell'Triennale in Milan. Design work is accompanied by theoretical and cultural work: teaching at the Polytechnic University of Milan from 1999 to 2008, and at the IUAV University in Venice since 2005.

The studio's archives, declared of special historical interest by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, were donated in 2010 to the Milan City Council's Centro di Alti Studi sulle Arti Visive. Il gioco e la regola was the title of the monographic exhibition that the Milan Triennale dedicated to the studio in 2012.

About the brand

"Poltronova is the radical factory. Poltronova is a historic moment, which is still alive and where many of us still feel at home. Where the glorious and long history of Italian design began among frogs and reeds, before reaching the altars of honour..."

Andrea Branzi Archizoom Associati.
