Roderick Vos began his studies in industrial design at the current Design Academy in Eindhoven (Netherlands) in 1984. In 1987 he moved to Japan for 8 months, where he found an excellent tutor in GK Industrial Associates/Tokyo, founded by Kenji Ekuan.
Partly Asian himself, this particular period evidently gave a greater impact to his personal interest in Asian culture and its products.
In 1990 he graduated from the Design Academy in Eindhoven and founded, together with his partner Claire Vos, also an industrial designer, his design office "Studio Roderick Vos", based in 's Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands.
«In my opinion, design should be humble; it often fails when designers try too hard to create, as they say, “design”. I try to create products with a magical simplicity; products should be able to tell their own “story” to the consumer.»
I hate most of the time the intellectual approach to "design issues".
I find it difficult, but not necessary, to explain to others my philosophy on “creating products and why.” One thing is certain: emotion is definitely the key to a product’s success.
